FREEDOM FLOTILLA 2 Comunicato Stampa
Atene – Il Comitato Direttivo della Freedom Flotilla 2 si è riunito ad Atene il 9 e 10 aprile per proseguire i preparativi per la prossima flotilla. Dallo scorso meeting di Amsterdam, Israele ha lanciato una campagna internazionale di incitamento contro la flotilla e i membri della coalizione che partecipano da tutto il mondo.
Ship to Gaza Grecia ha ospitato il meeting internazionale e ha sottolineato che il governo greco non ha fatto alcuna pressione su Israele per rilasciare le due navi dirottate in acque internazionali e trattenute sin dallo scorso 31 maggio 2010.
Ship to Gaza Grecia ha rispettato tutti i blocchi imposti da Israele pur di riuscire a riavere le proprie navi, ma tutti gli sforzi sono stati vani, dal momento che il governo greco è rimasto a guardare anziché insistere affinché Israele rispetti le leggi internazionali.
Il governo greco avrebbe dovuto fare pressione su Israele per ottenere il rilascio immediato delle navi, così come è avvenuto per le navi turche, restituite nell’agosto 2010.
Ora, alla vigilia del viaggio della seconda Freedom Flotilla, Israele minaccia di attaccarci di nuovo. Come era accaduto nel periodo precedente alla Freedom Flotilla dello scorso anno, i leader Israeliani sono già intenti a sviluppare un’atmosfera ostile che non dovrebbe lasciare dubbi sulle loro intenzioni, se e quando, attaccheranno illegalmente questa flotilla civile.
Di conseguenza, noi ci rivolgiamo a tutti i nostri governi, alla comunità internazionale ed alle Nazioni Unite chiedendo di non soccombere alle intimidazioni israeliane.
I governi non devono venire meno al proprio “dovere di proteggere” i propri cittadini. Le minacce contro la flotilla non avvengono solo in mare, ma anche all’interno dei nostri stati, dal momento che agenzie israeliane hanno nel mirino gruppi individuali e personalità.
Come partner della flotilla insistiamo sul fatto che i governi debbano mettere in atto misure preventive per assicurare che Israele non utilizzi la forza per interferire con questa iniziativa internazionale di pace che si muove per assicurare ai Palestinesi i diritti umani, la dignità umana e l’assistenza umanitaria
Il 10 maggio, i partner della Freedom Flotilla 2 si recheranno al Parlamento Europeo per incontrarne i membri e presentare la Freedom Flotilla 2 e i propri obiettivi.
Oltre ai movimenti organizzatori, ci saranno delegazioni da più di 50 paesi a bordo delle navi. La scorsa settimana il movimento Jews for a Just Peace (Ebrei per una giusta pace), ha annunciato che prenderà parte alla Flotilla sia come delegazione che inviando materiale a Gaza per sostegno umanitario.

Press release We Will Not Be Intimidated
Athens, April 11 2011
Athens – The Freedom Flotilla 2 Steering Committee met in Athens 9 and 10 April to continue preparations for the upcoming flotilla. Since the last meeting in Amsterdam, Israel has launched an international campaign of incitement against the Flotilla and its coalition members who are participating from around the world.
The Greek Ship to Gaza hosted this international meeting and emphasized that the Greek government has failed until now to pressure Israel to release the two Greek boats hijacked from international waters and held in Israel since 31st May 2010. The Greek Ship to Gaza has complied with all of the roadblocks put into place by Israel in order to bring back its ships, but our efforts have been to no avail. The Greek government should have pressured Israel to release immediately the ships, as Israel did for the Turkish ships in August, 2010.
Now, on the eve of the second Freedom Flotilla 2 voyage, the Israeli government is threatening to attack us again. As occurred last year before the first Freedom Flotilla, Israeli leaders are busy developing an atmosphere of hostility that should leave no doubt as to their intentions if and when they illegally attack this civilian flotilla.
Therefore, we are calling on all our governments, the international community and the United Nations not to succumb to Israel's intimidation. Governments need to fulfill their ‘responsibility to protect’ their own citizens. The threats against the Flotilla are not just at sea, but also in our home countries, as Israeli agencies are targeting individual groups and personalities. Flotilla partners insist that their governments take preemptive action to assure that Israel will not use force to interfere with this peaceful international effort to secure Palestinian human rights, human dignity and humanitarian assistance.
On May 10, Freedom Flotilla 2 partners will go to the European Parliament for meetings with MEPs as well as the United Nations and other international bodies, and to present Freedom Flotilla 2 and its goals. In addition to the partner organizations, there will also be participants from more than 50 countries on board the ships.
This past week the European Jews for a Just Peace announced that they will join the Flotilla as a delegation and in sending humanitarian assistance to Gaza.
