Morgantini guida delegazione di europarlamentari  per missione di valutazione in Palestina e Israele

A seguito della situazione sviluppatasi alla luce dei recenti eventi in Medioriente e della presenza significativa che tale questione ha all’interno dell’agenda politica dell’Unione Europea, l’eurodeputata italiana Luisa Morgantini guiderà e coordinerà una missione di deputati del Parlamento Europeo in Palestina e Israele da venerdì 27 a martedì 31 ottobre 2006.

“Sappiamo tutti quanto la questione israelo-palestinese rivesta un ruolo chiave e costituisca un elemento centrale nella ricerca globale della pace e di una possibile soluzione ai problemi della regione” dice la Morgantini, la quale è stata coinvolta significativamente nelle questioni relative alla regione e nell’organizzazione di delegazioni di europarlamentari in Palestina e Israele per molti anni. In questa delegazione, eurodeputati di diversi paesi e gruppi politici arriveranno sul campo per osservare e valutare, in un primo mento, cosa sta succedendo sul terreno ed in un secondo momento per riferire alle istituzioni europee i risultati della delegazione.

– Incontro con i Membri del Consiglio Legislativo Palestinese e delle Autorita Palestinesi

– Incontri con i Membri della Knesset

– Visita di Gaza, Cisgiordania e città israliane

– Visita del Muro

– Incontri con la delegazione della Commissione Europea

Gli eurodeputati che prendono parte alla missione provengono dall’Italia, Gran Bretagna, Francia, Ungheria, Germania, Portogallo ed Austria

Friday 27 October

 

  • Arrival to Tel Aviv Airport, transfer to the Ambassador Hotel in Jerusalem (check-in & registration).

  • h. 18.30 – Briefing with European Commission delegation and the consulates concerned in Jerusalem

Saturday 28 October

 

  • h. 7.30 (on Oct 28 or 29) – breakfast with the with the Popular Committee against the wall and the Coalition for Jerusalem organising the olive picking

 

  • h. 8.00 – departure from hotel

 

  • h. 9.00 – meeting with the DENIED ENTRY CAMPAIGN

  • h. 10.00-12.00 – Meeting with members of the Palestinian Legislative Council of various political groups (so far have confirmed: Hassan Kreishe, Vice President of the PLC, Abdallah Abdallah, Chair of the PLC Political Committee, Azam Al Ahmad, Head of the Fatah Group. Representatives from the 5 biggest political groups of the PLC have been invited to attend) and with the Union of the public sector workers (that organised the current strike)

 

In the afternoon:

 

  • Meeting in Ramallah with Mahmoud Abbas, President of the Palestinian National Authority

 

  • h. 14.00 – Meeting with Palestinian Agricultural Relief Committees.

 

  • visit Riwaq centre -Centre for Architectural Conservation; Fatin Farhat and the Sakakini Cultural Center

 

  • Meeting with the Free Marwan Barghouthi Campaign and families of political prisoners.

 

  • Meeting with combatants for peace – Palestinian and Israeli group of former soldiers and former Palestinian fighters.

 

  • h. 19.00 – back to the hotel

 

  • in the evening: meeting with B’Tselem and other human rights NGOs

 

 

Sunday 29 October

 

  • h. 8.00 – departure from Jerusalem to Qalqilya and Haifa

 

  • brief visit of the Wall

 

  • Haifa: meeting with Mosawa – the Advocacy Center for Arab Citizens in Israel; visit of the part of the town stricken by katiusha rockets. Meeting with Israeli activists

h. 10.00 – 11.00 or 15.30-16.30 – Meeting with the Mayor of Haifa (Yona Yahav)

h. 11:30am     Meeting at the Mossawa Center with: Rania Laham (Mossawa Deputy Director), Taiseer Khatib (Mossawa International Advocacy Associate), Tiffany Simon (Mossawa Int’l Advocacy Intern, Aida Touma (Director of Women Against Violence) and representatives of Peace Organisations in Haifa

h. 12:30pm     Tour of Wadi Nisnas, including areas damaged in the war

h. 13:15pm     Lunch

 

  • Meeting with representative(s) from Bat Shalom and the Coalition of Women for Peace – Ambassador Hotel, Jerusalem

 

  • h. 18.30 – Meeting with the IWC – International Women’s Commission for a Just and Sustainable Israeli-Palestinian Peace (if not possible on 29, then on 28 in the afternoon in Ramallah) – Ambassador Hotel, Jerusalem

  • h. 20.30 – Meeting with members of the "The
    Parents Circle-

    the Families Forum", bereaved families supporting reconciliation and peace. The organisation regroups Israelis and Palestinians who have lost family members in the conflict. Nurit Peled – 2001 EP Sakharov Prize – is a member. – Ambassador Hotel, Jerusalem

 

 

Monday 30 October

 

  • h. 7.00 – departure from Jerusalem to Gaza.

 

  • h. 10.00 – 12.00 – Meeting with members of the PLC

 

  • h. 12.30 – Visit to Shifa Hospital

 

  • Visiting Jabalia refugee camp

 

  • If possible, visiting the town of Rafah and Rafah crossing point

 

  • meeting with General Pistolese, head of the EU-BAM Rafah mission and EU – BAM (Border Assistance Mission) staff

 

  • Meeting with Jamal Zakout and other representatives of the Coalition for Peace and Democracy and of the Geneva initiative.
